Most platforms that we install are on roofs with a pitch of between 1–5 degrees. This building in Victoria was steeply raked at 20 degrees and the project called for a 8400 x 3600mm HVACR steel platform to be erected with a visual barrier around it. The platform had to be surface mounted (penetration-free) and therefore anchored in place without fixing it to the rafters below.
Being very comfortable with finding a customised solution to suit each project, the Con-form Group Engineering team swung into action. They calculated the live load rating (2.5 kPa), roof angle, weight of the platform and other data such as how to distribute the load of the HVACR plant equipment across the roof purlins. The triangular support structure, measuring at least 1500mm high on the lowest side, utilised a super-lightweight frame weighing just 16kg per square metre. Known as the EasyMech MR. The trusses were spaced 1200mm apart to provide maximum load bearing. A C-shaped steel purlin was incorporated as an additional cross support member due to the height of the truss.
The visual barrier is an attractively coloured Classic Screen Wall© featuring a 15mm gap between each slat to allow air to flow through to ventilate the HVAC&R machinery.
Installation of the EasyMech MR© platform and Classic Screen Wall© screen was made easier by the fact – along with everything being so light and easy to carry into place – that the parts were pre-assembled at the Con-form Manufacturing Centre of Excellence. They arrived as a flat-pack which was quickly bolted together. No welding or cutting parts to size on the roof.
