When was the last time you arrived at a shopping centre and you could hear the air conditioning machinery operating up on the roof? Most likely…never. That is because Con-form Group designs and manufactures highly specialised acoustic barriers for retail centres across the nation.
Every week of the year we are partnering with shopping centre and retail outlet developers and owners to capture airborne mechanical noises. This requires a sophisticated solution because each piece of rooftop HVACR equipment produces different frequencies and volumes of noise. These noises move in different directions and sometimes they clash with each other in what is known as sound wave interference. In some cases the merged noises combine to become even louder – this is constructive interference. The HVACR equipment is not the only challenge…air drawn into fans and ducts and moving about creates induction noise, breakout noise and aerodynamic noise. Noise follows the First Law of Thermodynamics – the Law of Energy Conservation – in that it cannot be eliminated it can only be transformed or transferred.
Con-form Group collaborated with Acoustic Engineers to develop a range of unique solutions which are suitable for all locations. They feature lightweight steel frames and interlocking panels with a core of fibrous polyester absorptive material. Like the one you see on this Coles roof in Victoria. This core captures noise using an absorb-reflect-absorb method.
What makes our screens different from all others is that they are tuneable. A core with lower surface density can be placed where less noise is occurring and the core with higher surface densities is positioned near big-noise producers. This way you can customise your acoustic barrier exactly to match the requirements of each parameter of your rooftop environment.
Acoustic+, Acoustic+ DC (for the very noisy sites such as Data Centres) and Acoustic Louvres are available in a variety of heights and can be installed to a Con-form Group metal/concrete roof lightweight steel platform or directly to the roof surface. All steel components are covered by our 25 year warranty.
