Inner-City Acoustics: Protecting a Private Penthouse

A luxurious rooftop pool and garden area atop a Melbourne apartment building presented a unique acoustic and architectural challenge.

The private space was designed to provide its owner with serenity and privacy. However, noisy HVAC and water-heating equipment was positioned close to the pool deck, creating unwanted noise and an unattractive visual feature.

Con-form Group was tasked with containing the noise and preventing it from disturbing the occupants while delivering a solution that complemented the building’s existing façade.

The project required both functional and architectural performance.

Our solution was to surround the equipment area with modular, interlocking Acoustic+ Wall©. With a Noise Reduction Coefficient of 0.75, the system’s acoustic core absorbs unwanted sound energy and converts it into heat, which then dissipates naturally into the atmosphere.

Manufactured using material derived from recycled drink bottles, the acoustic core provides effective noise absorption while supporting a more environmentally responsible approach to acoustic management.

The wall was finished in Surfmist® from COLORBOND®, allowing it to blend seamlessly with the surrounding architecture. Rather than appearing as a separate acoustic barrier, the completed system looks like a natural extension of the building.

The result is a quieter, more private rooftop retreat that combines reliable acoustic performance with a clean architectural finish.
