Light Gauge Steel is produced in the steel mill using up to 100% recycled steel. Old products are reborn; a car part can become a refrigerator, then a ladder, then a Con-form Group HVACR plant platform.
This is a circular economy which minimises the need for virgin steel, and therefore reduces the amount of iron ore being extracted. Globally more than 80% of steel is recycled, and the figure is 82% here in Australia.
For every ton of Light Gauge Steel manufactured in an Electric Arc Furnace, there are 0.4-0.8 metric tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions. This represents a 50% reduction due to the ongoing improvements in sustainable steel making. Compare that figure to the emissions generated by the production of 1 ton of structural steel in a Basic Oxygen Furnace or blast furnace: 1.7-1.8 tonnes.
There is zero wastage when using Light Gauge Steel for our projects because our roll-formers cut exact lengths. And, due to the protective layer applied in the mill, it can be exposed to the elements for decades without corrosion. We offer a 25-Year Warranty on our outdoor steel.
These are some of the sustainable reasons why we choose Light Gauge Steel for our platforms, screen walls and louvres.
