Imagine having to attach a platform to a roof with rafters heading off in all directions. Not only were they not parallel with each other, they were pitched at different angles and were laid in a variety of heights…and yet none of this was an obstacle for our engineers.
As a market leader for over two decades, Con-form Group is no stranger to retrofitting our platforms, screens and walkways to older buildings with less-than-perfect framework and load bearing capabilities.
The engineering department- made up of both mechanical and structural engineers – was tasked with coming up with a quick and cost-effective solution so that the 6 x 5.4 metre platform could be installed on top of the aging tavern. They designed and made a unique packer weldment which sat between the rafter and the platform truss. This custom stub column, which had to be a different length for each connect point, was manufactured and delivered onsite in just days.
Con-form Group platforms are lightweight, which is ideal for older roof structures, and they are designed to disperse the load across the spans. The EasyMech Span+ is a unique type of platform well suited to projects like this one because it can be attached to the rafters. It only requires a minimum of penetration and no hot works are necessary, so it can be installed without anyone having to vacate the premises.
